People whose sensibility is destroyed by music in trains, airports, lifts, cannot concentrate on a Beethoven Quartet.

The notes I handle no better than many pianists. But the pauses between the notes - ah, that is where the art resides!

The pause is as important as the note.

The discovery of song and the creation of musical instruments both owed their origin to a human impulse which lies much deeper than conscious intention: the need for rhythm in life... the need is a deep one, transcending thought, and disregarded at our peril.

An artist, in giving a concert, should not demand an entrance fee but should ask the public to pay, just before leaving as much as they like. From the sum he would be able to judge what the world thinks of him - and we would have fewer mediocre concerts.

I think sometimes could I only have music on my own terms, could I live in a great city, and know where I could go whenever I wished the ablution and inundation of musical waves, that were a bath and a medicine.

Music, once admitted to the soul, becomes a sort of spirit, and never dies.

The pleasure we obtain from music comes from counting, but counting unconsciously. Music is nothing but unconscious arithmetic.

Nothing separates the generations more than music. By the time a child is eight or nine, he has developed a passion for his own music that is even stronger than his passions for procrastination and weird clothes.

I have no pleasure in any man who despises music. It is no invention of ours: it is a gift of God. I place it next to theology. Satan hates music: he knows how it drives the evil spirit out of us.

Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter.

Here are some quotes which let me think at most, specially regarding our label's ideas:

John Keats:
Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter.

English Romantic movement's poet just took our own thoughts regarding new net label project start. We have decided that it's too simple to hear the melodies which are obtruded by media giants, and it would be much interesting to make our own independant choice. The choice which would make a deal for others as well. As soon as the process moves forward, I could say only: it's the most exciting process to hear something unheard!

Ernest Newman:
A good composer is slowly discovered, a bad composer is slowly found out.

Coming from the English music critic, this saying is exactly about how we discover new names for INQB8R. So far it's obvious there is HUGE mass of music around; but the quantity forces good composers being hidden and bad composers lost.

Noel Coward:
Extraordinary how potent cheap music is.

No?l Coward himself, besides playing in theater, was an author of few popular music pieces as well. But his saying specially reminded me our INQB8R release of XIIORA. It was so cheap and extraordinary potent, so I can't say anything against but just agree.

Mary Kay Ash:
Most people live and die with their music still unplayed. They never dare to try.

Mary Kay was known specially as a successful feminist-businesswoman, so I am not sure completely this quotation comes from her. However I am more than sure this saying is right. How many of you noticed that something stunning sounds in the head? Kind of melody or rhythm you never heard before, but which seems beautifully organic for yourself. It seems impossible to save it, so your own music passes by... Why? because you didn't even tried to do so.

Oliver Wendell Holmes:
Alas for those that never sing,
But die with all their music in them!

This is a message from one of the best regarded American poets of the 19th century to all our composers who are in doubt, what a free music net label means and why they should release with us ;-) You could die with music in you if you never dare to try.

Kit Coleman:
An artist, in giving a concert, should not demand an entrance fee but should ask the public to pay, just before leaving as much as they like. From the sum he would be able to judge what the world thinks of him - and we would have fewer mediocre concerts.

Canadian newspaper columnist Catherine Ferguson (aka Kit Coleman) died too early to check the famous Radiohead's MP3 album release, which was offered to buy for as much as anybody likes. Unfortunately it seems to be just another successful giant label deal, full of promotional tricks and background psycho-techniques, because Radiohead do not play their live shows for free. They must earn at least on something. But this is definitely a great thought.

Oliver Herford:
The Irish gave the bagpipes to the Scots as a joke, but the Scots haven't got the joke yet.

"The American Oscar Wilde" just made me smile - great joke! :-)

Mencius:
If the King loves music, it is well with the land.

This impresses because I think it says about your country, INQB8R... Latvia? Recently I watched Nationwide Song and Dance Celebration on TV and I never seen such large crowd of pagan people singing to Sun. But how about your... umm... President? Does he love the music? ;-)

I am not sure our current president is in love with music a lot. The previous one was.

Here's just another quote to your collection, taken from the Teacher which works I recently have read:

There is a combination of emotions and sounds (music), which may force very strong emotions to appear, which would be mostly joyful and even really pleasant. Such music is dangerous, like as wine or narcotic.

Tsiolkovsky
